Bat Entry Gap into a House in Athens, Georgia

Bat entry gap into a house in Athens

This quarter-inch gap between the roof sheathing and the drip edge was all the bats needed to get into this house in Athens. There are no rub marks, which tells me that this is a brand-new infestation. That's good. This house will probably just need bat exclusion and partial insulation replacement, not a complete insulation-replacement job.

If the homeowner hadn't called right away, it certainly would have needed all the insulation replaced. Bats fly throughout attics and contaminate all the insulation with guano. There's just more of it under their resting areas. But this one probably won't. I can't say for sure because I haven't been in the attic, but it looks like a brand-new bat problem.
