Mice Chewed on the Wires in the Attic of a House in Athens, Georgia

Mice nibbled through the insulation on the electric wires in the attic of a house in Athens Georgia

Mouse damage to wires in Athens

Mice can play havoc with wiring of any sort. Many house fires are caused by mice every year, as well as malfunctioning Internet, television, doorbells, and thermostats. Lots of time the homeowner isn't even aware that they have a mouse problem until a technician called to fix the malfunctioning service or device finds the mouse damage to the wiring.

When I was young, I had an account at a computer data center where my only job was to lift the raised floor tiles every ten feet or so, shine a flashlight under them, and check for evidence of mice. The network and electric supply wires ran under the raised flooring, and any nibbling on the wires could cause catastrophic outages.
