Raccoon damage about 10 inches by 2 feet in the soffit panel of a house in Powder Springs Georgia, partially covered by cardboard.

Raccoon damage to a soffit in Powder Springs

I'm not sure what the point of the cardboard was. I guess people feel the need to do something when they find animals in their attic, even if its obviously not going to be effective.

As for the raccoon damage itself, it looks like the raccoons' work was made easier by existing water damage to the plywood soffit panel. This is not unusual. Water damage and animal damage very often occur in the same places.
