Yellow jackets build their nests in voids that may be some distance from the opening they used to get into the building. In this case, the nest was in the attic, but they got in through the small gap under the roof sheathing of this house in Dallas, Georgia. They actually only need a hole about the diameter of a pencil, so that gap was actually much bigger than they needed.
