Loose Dryer Vent Allowed Mice into a House in Stone Mountain, Georgia

Dryer vent is sticking out an inch from the brick wall of a house in Stone Mountain Georgia and mice got in through the gap

How mice got into a house in Stone Mountain

What happened here was that the dryer vent wasn't well-anchored to the brick wall of this house in Stone Mountain, Georgia. When it crept out over time, the mice crept in.

When securing a dryer vent to a brick wall, I find it's better to secure the vent to the duct, and then secure the duct to the framing inside the house, carefully caulking the area where the vent meets the bricks to create a tight seal. None of the methods of securing screws into brick or mortar work all that well.
