How a young raccoon got into this Chattanooga home

The bottom course of the siding is missing, which exposed a gap through which a young raccoon got into this house in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Although not visible in the picture, the siding was laying on the ground in front of the house. It may have fallen off on its own, or the raccoon could have pulled it off the wall.

This time of year, many young male raccoons are looking for their first homes away from home. Young males tend to leave in the fall and spend their winters alone or with other "bachelor" males. Young females tend to spend their first winters with their mothers, probably gossiping about the young males.
