Gray Squirrel Gnawed its Way Into this House in Marietta, Georgia
Gray squirrel hole into a house in Marietta
The rain gutter cover must have been pretty sturdy because the rat chose to gnaw a hole through the wooden soffit instead.
The tree overhanging the roof may been one of the reasons the squirrel chose this particular house. Trees afford squirrels good protection against predators because the squirrels can out-climb ground-dwelling predators like cats, and the trees branches make it harder for large raptors to get close enough to pick off the squirrels. So when winter comes and the squirrel is looking for its winter home, a house next to, touching, or directly under a tree is more likely to be of interest to squirrels.
We'll remove the squirrels, repair the damage, and seal the house to keep squirrels out of the attic.
