How the Bats Got into the Attic of this House in Chattanooga

Three eighths inch irregular gap between the wooden roof trim and the shingles allowed bats into the attic of a house in Chattanooga

Bat entry gap into an attic in Chattanooga

The gap between the wooden trim and the shingles may have been there since the house was built, or it may be the result of the roof settling over time. Either way, it was how bats got into the attic of this house in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

On the bright side, the complete lack of any staining or guano tells me that this is a brand-new bat problem. We'll still have to seal the whole roof to keep bats out of the attic, but the cleanup phase of the job will be much easier than it would be for a well-established bat colony.
