How Mice Got into the Crawl Space of this House in Chattanooga

Mice gnawed away the screen behind the openings between three vertical slats of a plastic foundation vent cover to get into the crawl space of a house in Chattanooga

How mice got into this crawl space in Chattanooga

The screens that come with foundation vent covers are usually flimsy and thin. They keep insects out of the house until they corrode away, but they don't keep mice or other rodents out.

Mice simply gnawed the screen away to get into the crawl space of this house in Chattanooga. There was no need to gnaw the vent cover itself because the space between the slats was big enough for the mice to get through. Rats, on the other hand, would have gnawed right through the plastic vent as well as the screen behind it.

The customer asked us to replace the plastic vent covers with metal ones. That will help keep both mice and rats out of the house.
