How the Bat Problem in the Attic of a House in Macon, Georgia Began

How bats got into the attic of a house in Macon

I'm guessing that flexible duct is a clothes dryer vent, mainly because I can't think of anything else it could be. It became detached from the wall, probably because it was never properly secured in the first place; and the resulting gap allowed bats to get into the attic of this house in Macon, Georgia.

The amount of filth in the insulation suggests that this problem has been going on for a long time. I also suspect that there may also have been squirrels living in the attic. Whatever the case, the contaminated insulation will have to be removed, and replaced with new insulation.
