Raccoon Damage to the Soffit Panels of a House in Atlanta
Raccoons collapsed the soffit of an Atlanta home
This kind of raccoon damage is very common in the fall. What happens is that most young male raccoons leave their mothers' homes in late summer and early fall, and spend their first winters either alone or with other bachelor male raccoons, who may or may not be related to them. The young raccoons run around in the attic, and when they happen to run along a soffit panel that's loose, it collapses under their weight.
Typically this also means that the soffit panels were cut a bit too narrow to begin with; so most likely we'll replace at least some of the soffit panel to keep raccoons out of the attic of this house in Atlanta.
