How Mice Got into the Attic of this House in Atlanta

Lifted shingle reveals a three quarter inch gap at the edge of the roof sheathing that mice used to get into the attic of an Atlanta home.

Mouse gap into the attic of an Atlanta home

Lots of folks wonder how mice get all the way up to the attic of a house. The answer is that they climb. Sometimes they climb up inside the wall voids, other times they climb up the downspout, and still other times they climb up a tree that touches or overhangs the house.

In this case, the mice climbed up inside the downspout on the insulation covering an air-conditioning line. Once they got into the rain gutter, they were able to get into the attic through a gap at the edge of the roof sheathing, as shown in the picture.

We'll set traps to catch and remove the mice from the attic of this Atlanta home; and we'll seal that gap and any other openings that we find to prevent future mouse infestations.
