Handyman's Failed Attempt to Bat Proof a Chimney Cap

Failed handyman bat-proofing attempt

A handyman tried to bat-proof the chimney cap using a sealant, but did an incredibly sloppy job that left many openings where bats could roost.

If the openings extended no farther than that metal lip, there would be no need for bat control at this house. The bats aren't bothering anyone living under the lip. The problem is that some of the openings go all the way through into the chimney, and the bats have been wandering into the home's living area.

This is a lesson in why you should hire specialists, not handymen, to address problems with bats and other nuisance wildlife.
