Insulation on the roof are evidence of squirrels that are trying to get into the attic of an Acworth Georgia home and need to be kept out.

Signs of squirrels at a house in Acworth

Squirrels often move into attics for the winter. But as far off as winter may seem, you have to remember that the squirrels can't wait until it gets cold to start preparing their winter digs. They have to have their winter homes chosen and provisioned before winter actually arrives.

We're not sure exactly how squirrels know when to start preparing for the winter. Some common theories are when the length of days start getting shorter, the angle of the sun changes, or plants start producing seeds. One way or the other, however, squirrels know how not to be left out in the cold.

The insulation on the roof in this picture was left by a squirrel making an early start trying to get into the attic of this Acworth, Georgia home. We're already squirrel-proofing the house to prevent the squirrel from getting in and staying for the winter.
